Did you hear on the news of the world record tuna caught in New Zealand? I saw a quick glimpse of the story on my local news here and did a search and found it.
http://www.theage.com.au/news/World/Tuna-size-of-a-cow-sets-record-off-NZ/2005/08/23/1124562835232.html
Now, the story clearly states that the fish was caught using a reel owned by an AUSTRALIAN! Based on that fact alone, I would have to say that a good 80 or 90 percent (heck maybe 95) of the credit for that fish goes to OZ. Those shifty-eyed hobbits are ripping you guys off! Credit where credit's due right? >:(......... ;D ;D ;D
That's one big fish though! Do any of you guys or gals fish in New Zealand? Is it good fishing there or is it about the same as Australia?
P.S. -- I'm not changing my allegiance here. I'll always love Australia next best to my own country (sometimes just as much ;)), I'm just curious about the fishing there.
P.P.S. -- Rest assured I will be writing a letter to the New Zealand embassy here at once demanding that they acknowledge Australia's rightful claim to that record fish! Just as soon as I find my English-hobbit, hobbit-English translating dictionary. ;D
P.M.S. -- Doesn't it just figure. You try to help the less fortunate out by sharing your bounty with them and it comes back to bite you in the end. It happens all the time with us Illinoisans and the Wisconsinites. We taught them how to use can openers once (they've since forgotten) and the first thing they do invent canned cheese! Philistines! >:( .... ;D You lend them a reel and look what happens! I tell you it's true... No good deed goes unpunished!
You guys can't let this stand! You'll either have to get credit for this fish or catch a bigger one! It's a matter of pride now! Good fishing and God's speed to you all! Long live Australia!

Everything you say is true!!! A case could be put on these grounds for annexation.
However
Due to our current problems with the non-intergration of ethnic minorities.
Saddling ourselves with a recalcitrant population of Hobbits might not be in the interests of national security. ;D ;D

If it is a record for that line class, then congrats to who ever it was that caught it.
Pitty that they did not have pics of the cow sized fish.
Picture below is from somewhere in my archive. Also caught of hobbit land.
Not a record because ...... no idea why?????? Maybe a different specie or something.
Claimed at the time of being 340 kg?

And what about this one from a couple of years ago.
"Huia angler, Peter Jackson caught a massive 2.3 metre, 198kg bluefin tuna off the West Coast on Sunday night, the 17th of September. The crew was setting up for a broadbill drift in idillic conditions off the Kaipara trench when the big fish hit at around 8pm. It took a large english slimey mackerel rigged on 37kg line and kept the crew guesing as to what it was due to the unusual power and speed of its initial run. The big fish towed the 237 Billfisher; the crew was fishing from, for 3 hours before finally being subdued.
There is some confusion as to whether it is a southern or northern bluefin so the extent of the capture will not be made clear until the species classification is confirmed. If ratified as a southern bluefin it will smash the existing 37kg national record set back in 1984 by a 138kg East Coast fish. However, it still falls 100kg short of the national all tackle record set back in 1970 from Mayor Island.
If it is confirmed as a much rarer northern bluefin, it will set the benchmark as no records exist for the species within the NZ Big Game Fishing Council.
Whatever the scientists say, it’s one hell of a fish and any crew that makes the effort to get out and actively target broadbill and other large pelargics (sic), deserve their just rewards. Well done Peter!"

I hadn't thought of that Reel Nauti! After Australia gets 90 percent credit, the charter boat owner should get about 5 (I'll just assume he was an Aussie for my purposes here) and the nation that manufactured the reel should get another 5. Those 'Zealanders shouldn't get any credit! What a total scam! Rip off city! One more thing! Where was the lure made? Probably Australia! If anything, the Hobbits owe Australia 5 percent of the fish! It just may be time to put Rando's plan into action. Time to annex Hobbiton. There's no time to delay! Who knows what devilry they'll think up next! ;D

60kilo breaking strain line and 2 hours fight........took 5 guys to bring it on board.

....and here's the evidence! Yes ladies and gentlemen, irrefutible evidence that the hobbits are plotting something! Their technology isn't quite there yet but how long can it take now that they've been exposed to the reel before they unlock it's secrets and develope their own eh? This photo was taken at great peril to myself. It plainly shows two hobbits fishing. Yes their gear is primitive but I do believe it is a test prototype fishing pole of some sort they are field testing. Mark my words, nothing good can come from this! The time to annex is now!
I'm sorry, I have to go. I believe I'm being watched. Their spies are everywhere! Is that the pitter-patter of tiny bair feet I hear? I have to flee! Take care!
Yours in Christ,

You thought ANY of this was serious Reel? I'm kidding. Just having a little fun. Truth be told, I have an affinity for hobbits. Helen is probably a hobbit. Whoever Helen is. ::) Sorry if you didn't "get it." Didn't mean to offend. If anything, I'm pro-hobbit. They make great movies! I don't like most movies, but their's are good! Plus, it's an excuse to eat pop-corn and sit on your bum for two hours without looking like a couch potatoe which is always good. I'll be the one crying most if and when all of those volcanoes erupt under their feet. Why they built their cities on volcanoes is a mystery, but who am I to judge? I love them. One and all. Even the ugly ones if there are any. :P
So it's fine that they get 100 percent credit for the fish. I don't REALLY care. I'll not joke about New Zealand any more. I'll keep making fun of Wisconsinites though if that's still O.K. I hate them. More than anything! >:( ;D ;D ;D

;D Everyone (especially hobbits and their sympathisers) please note that I didn't write that joke! I admit, I'm rolling on the floor laughing at it, but I didn't write it! So don't anyone get all steamed at me please. ;D I'm in enough trouble already. I've received several threats to be kicked in the shins and have Gandalf sicked on me. Sure they look small and cuddly, but when you get them mad--Yeouch! Those shirefolk can get downright nasty! ;D I admit defeat. My comedic wrath will nevermore target the good people of "Australia Junior" or "Mini-Oz" or whatever it is they liked to be called. ;D No, I have my Wisconsin and you Aussies will have to deal with the "fush and chuppers" on your own from now on. I'm not worried. If Nofrills is any indication of your comedic capabilities, I'm sure you are more than able to handle the job. ;D
Good 1 Nofrills! ;D ;D ;D

Nice pics of the tuna Smithy by the way. I can see why they are so popular a fish to go after. I can imagine the fight they give you. :o

Trouble is some of them blend in so well with us humans it can be very hard to tell. Best bet is to check them for wellies (gumboots) ;) it's a real giveaway ;D

The Govt has predicted a major hobbit migration towards the south, And Air New Zealand has predicted a doubling of their half yearly profit.
The catalyst for both events is in the Australian Govts planned expansion of the work for the dole scheme ;D ;D
Changing address now ;)
