I went close last March, although the lure was smaller and the fish a little bigger. I caught a baby grinner about 50mm long on the treble of a 70cm lure.

Worst part was we were on a hire BBQ boat with 10 others, so I never heard the end of it all day, even after I got a 49cm flattie, they still gave me heaps.

Now that's a big lure-fish ratio.... :o

I have seen a small reef fish of ~12 cm brained by a huge solid steel reef pick as the anchor chain dragged and caught a boulder. The fish was sandwiched - but I don't it counts as a lure though.

I can beat that...was fishing lake somerset and my wife was bouncing a mask along the bottom...when we decided to move we reeled in and it was then she found there was a small baitfish hooked through the gill. This thing was no more that an inch long at best!

Just a case of WRONG PLACE...WRONG TIME!

Not the smallest fish to take a lure but have seen a small bream (15cm) smash a big pencil popper meant for tailor. Poor little bugger could barely pull the lure under.
Big appetite.

hey champ thats pretty impresive. i fished monduran bout 12months ago. i too was using a b52 and caught 2 little roogers like that one was 42mm and the other was a massive 46mm. some times fish like that are more memorable than biguns.
