Jumpinpin bar seperates Nth and Sth Stradbroke Island.The area inside the bar is the place people commonly refer to the THE PIN.Made up with a multitude of islands channels.
Great area to fish and camp but would be advisable to have a map or Beacon to Beacon until you get to know the area.

You can access the whole Jumpinpin estuary system via a number of different ways too. There are good ramps located at Jacob's Well, Cabbage Tree Point, Russell Island & at Carbrook (Logan River) which all lead you into the Main Channel and the Canaipa Passage via a myriad of smaller channels and creeks. These ultimately lead you directly to the Pin bar itself or to the upper areas of the BroadWater depending on where you wanna fish. And of course you can access the area from the BroadWater itself.

The area of water right up to the bar itself, on the left looking out to sea can be very deep in places with some big holes and large shallow banks over to the right. A word of caution though if fishing in this area, the current on a run out tide can be SEVERE so always be on guard, especially if anchoring and at night time. It is very easy to be sucked out into the breakers on a runout tide.

Kalinga Banks can be very productive for XOS size lizards and school jewies on live baits especially while drifting. There's also a little creek called 'Duck or Never Never Creek' which runs behind Stingaree Island. Kalinga Banks runs down the other side. This little creek runs off Canaipa Passage from behind Squire Island and into Swan Bay which is located right at the mouth of the estuary. Warning, all fishing activity is banned in Swan Bay BUT not in Duck Creek. I have caught some big lizards and bream in this creek. The entrance to the creek is very shallow at both ends with a small rock bar near the entrance from Swan Bay so if venturing into this area I wouldn't try it in anything larger than a tinnie.

If anchoring #at all around the "Pig Sties" which is the area at the top of Kalinga Bank right on Stingaree Island, be prepared to lose an anchor or two in the black mud ;)

Make sure you've got good maps and or a copy of the beacon to beacon directory as it's easy to get lost in this vast and beautiful system. A good powerful torch comes in very handy too when navigating at night as a lot of the markers only have reflectors on them and can be quite difficult to track.
