Sat waiting for the deckie to get home from work. The kids failed miserably and sloped off up to bed by 10.30 leaving me alone to watch a miserable repeat of Edinburgh tattoo. Hate to admit it but those kiwis were good ;D ;D

Deckie just made it home for midnight so after a quick snog we sat with a few quiet iced irish coffees watching the Sydney firework display. Thought the display was marvellous but the music was atrocious and Brizzy put 'em to shame. In bed by 12.45 (5am start for the deckie) and the bloody phone goes off at 1.30. Silly pomm rellies thinking we'd still be up getting p!ssed !! ::) ::)

Will have our new year celebration down at the pin Monday night...........Crab washed down with baileys and brandy on ice.

Happy New Year to you all.

Hey all..

Got a phone call at 9.30 last nite from a mate who
was at southbank to watch the early fireworks.

The gear shift had failed, was stuck in neutral, the deckie
had deployed the anchor to find that it wasn't secured
to said vessel, so he played dogem with other boats
until the water police intervined and towed him to a
private jetty on the highside of the WJ bridge..

So if anyone was at Southbank last nite and witnessed
a white cuddy towing a haines halfcab thru the middle
of it all at 11pm last nite, with a police escort,
well, that was us...

Made it back to Colmslie ramp by 11.58pm.

The things we do..

Harry..

Okay Muzz you got me in,I call the first one for a Gem Fish and the red fella for an Alfonsino?I've caught a couple of the red fellas but always let them go because I'm not a hundred percent sure on what they are,has that one been on ice for a while? cause the ones I've caught were brilliant crimson red.Did it taste alright?

onerabbit
04-01-2006, 03:40 PM
hey banshee, you got the first one right, an average gem fish, but never heard of alfonsino?? (will look) bit of a mystery fish, is in the bullseye family, closest we came in the grants guide was black spot bullseye, looked the same, but eye was lumo green instead of black & no black spot on dorsal spines, was caught on a fishing club comp day, so charlie was determined to bring it in, actually cooked up really well, bit like a big nanagai, very white & sweet, would have rather had a bar cod though, was on ice but very red, black under pectoral fins, only one we've seen, muzz.

Just draged the mag out that has the picture of the Alfonsino (beryx splendens and beryx decadactylus) and it's definately not one of them different tail and fins, know what your saying about the eyes on these beasts they are a very striking fish straight out of the water. There's been a lot of water between the two that I've got,one was on the 52 and the other was right out wide,if you get a positive ID on the beast let us know, but till then I'll go with Bullseye as well.

hey banshee, need to correct myself, was running on memory( not that flash at this point of the year), long finned bullseye, cookeolus boops, but definitely describes a BLACK eye, cheers for the comments though, scanner not bring page up too good, but here is a better shot of my youngest with his best flattie( bigger than mine), muzz
