I will be traveling the North Coast from Broom to Carins. Need to know what rods to bring and what flys to tie. Ive a 4,6,8 and 10wt rods. What to bring as I cannot bring my whole collection. Any Ideas of where to go what to look for and what to stay away from. I want to fish some salt flats(never done that before) and all my rivers I fish have no crock like animals. Ill be there mid march to mid april. Any help or suggestions are crucial!!
thanks in advance

G'day Lowded,
If you are after fly info you might want to put a post in the flyfishing section.
You don't say whether you've been here before or know much about Oz, but Broome to Cairns is a bloody long way through some pretty dangerous country for the uninitiated. (About 5,000 kilometres by road according to one travel site)
Some areas require permits for entry.
Most of the rivers in that area are chock full of crocodiles. #They might spit a canuk out though #;)
I'd suggest you seriously think about contacting a few guides.

cheers,

Owen

G'day Lowded....

Firstly, the region you're visiting isn't called the north coast,
its affectionately known as the top end! # [smiley=wink.gif]

Owens hit the preverbial nail, #(think 10wt as light tackle).

Professional guidance a must in some areas.

Bring buckets of repellant, sun smart clothing,
big hat,and a big knife. (think croc dundee) [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

And yeah, watch out for the lizards.. and the stingers.. and...

have a ball, you lucky bastard. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Harry..

RIGHT ON GUYS. SO BRING THE 10 WT. ILL MOVE THE TOPIC TO THE FLY SECTION FOR SOME FLY IDEAS. LOOKS TO ME LIKE MAINLY STREAMERS I WOULD LOVE SOME DRY ACTION BUT I DONT THINK ITS POSSIBLE IN THE WATER IM LOOKING AT. DO CROCKS VENTURE OUT INTO THE SALT FLATS. SHOULD I CONSIDER TAKING A SHOTGUN DOWN LIKE I DO FOR THE GRIZZLEYS? CANT WAIT SOUNDS LIKE SOME GREAT COUNTRY. I HAVE ONE MONTH AND A WEEK TO DO THIS TRIP BROOME TO CARINS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THAT IS ENOUGH TIME!!
