Tidal flow

Gidday guys,
Can anyone help me with tidal flow,mainly movement ie.which way the current flows and why some areas that you'd think would fill before others don't although they may appear to be closer to a particular bar.Hope i made sense here?

The greatest flow rate is always near the bar area,
which incredible filling rates can be witnessed.

Outgoing flow is greater nearer the spoil areas.

The bars are always busier around the
Christmas/New year period, added to that the
effects of the full moon periods, which always
create inexplicable havoc, and, have been
confirmed by the relevant authorities.
