Does anybody know how to tell a fake from a real shot? I did some googling on it yesterday, but I cant solve it. It seems you can open the pic in photoshop and zoom in on the sus bits, but I cant tell what Im looking for. Saw some references to 'bleeding' as a technique, but I dont know how to do it. I know how to change hue and saturation, but that didnt help.

I know we have a few graphics experts here. Any tips? Id realy like to know how to tell the difference between real and fake.

cheers
Andrew

Looks very real to me, check out the shadows, that's very hard if not impossible to fake. ;)

It's a fake 'cos:

If you import the pic into a good graphics editor and then zoom in to a very large scale you will see that someone has messed about with the dorsal fin and the tail fin. Even in the raw pic, the rear part of the fin is "too" vertical and when zoomed in it is simple to see that someone has been cut 'n pasting. The tail fin has also been doctored and the colours do not match either. The two above areas are very black compared with the other parts of the shark.
Although difficult to gauge, if the two boat/shark dimensions are compared and assuming the kayak ia around the 4.0 metre mark, the shark would in fact be a woppa at just under 10 metres! Conversely, if the picture quote of a "four metre shark" is correct then the kayak should be about a metre long!! I suspect the kayak pic is the original but it's resolution (pixels) is far poorer than that of the shark when zoomed in which suggests two separate images. I reckon the shark is the "plant" but quite a good job of forgery at first glance nonetheless! There are many good graphic editors out now (Microsoft Digital Imaging 2006) that can be used to clone the various pics together and it is almost impossible to spot the difference. In this fashion, the waters and colours can be simply made to be seamless.
