We use the public library system (we are poor).
We scan the market.
Find what we want.
Put a request order into the library.
We usually have it with-in a month.
I do not endorse burning a copy. ;)

Stuffy means a thunderstorm is on the way :)
Still raining here, and will be for sometime, until the monsoonal trough moves down the coast, or out to sea (to make himself into a cyclone).

A few years ago I was informed, that depending on the location the cyclone is formed (in relation to the weather station) is the way the cyclone is named. One station has an all female list of names, where the other has an all male list of names. (I think one of the stations is in Fijian waters and one is in Australian waters).

Is this true, or is someone playing the easy game of 'fool the blonde'.

I thnk the naming system just goes alphabetical, regardless of where it is in australia.

They alternate sexes too from letter to letter.

From the BoM website ---

Naming the beast
The practice of naming cyclones, first introduced by the colourful Queensland Government Meteorologist Clement Wragge in the late 19th Century, lapsed with his retirement in 1902, but was re-introduced by the Bureau of Meteorology in 1963. Initially, cyclones were given female names, but in keeping with the spirit of "equal opportunity" that emerged in the 1970s, Australian cyclones were allocated both male and female names from 1975.

Thank god the rain has let up a bit here in mackay for an hour or two. It always rains just when you try to start moving house..

Found some even more detailed info on the naming of cyclones. Seems that each tropical cyclone warning centre (perth, darwin and brisbane) have their own set of names to go by.

You can check out all the names here - http://www.bom.gov.au/catalogue/warnings/cyclone_names.shtml

So we might be looking at cyclone "Jim" forming off the east coast.

Richard,

Thank you. My search of the web on this topic wasn't as fruitful as yours. Plus I think at that time of posting I was feeling rather lazy.

Thank you also for not playing the easy game of 'fool the blonde'

Where you moving to?

In west mackay at the moment and moving to west mackay again, only a street away :)

Still a bugger having to move everything though - you have to pick your spots between the drizzle - nnnnnnnnnnow, no, nnnnow, just wait, now now now.. quick before it starts again.

At least if we don't get a cyclone out of it we might get some decent rain. I already have to mow the lawn once a week to keep ahead of it. But i wish we'd get some decent weather to go fishing in - going crazy not being able to go out to the reef or go snorkelling. Restricted to the creeks.

The shame about having a reef is that we don't have a big surf to surf, until a cyclone comes close.

Will brb on this post, Thumps is asking for some lunch and I have to go make him some, seems his arms and legs have fallen off and his heart has stopped beating rendering him unable to make himself some lunch.......lmao
