We have booked a houseboat for a week from 12 - 18 November in the zone covered above.
Looking to crab and fish for the whole week.
Are there any particular species and rigs we should be chasing?
Does anyone have any suggested spots to try, as we are not familiar with the area?
Waypoints would be great if you don't mind sharing.
We do have a couple of tinnies in tow (4.1m and 5.25m) to get around in - up creeks etc.
Tks in advance for any help.

Regards.

Just out from Carlo Point there is a little creek on the left called Dinnies Creek. We have caught some reasonable sized Estuary Cod just inside the mouth using Pilchards on unweighted ganged hooks. Good creek for crabs as well. Drains out a fair bit at low tide, so use the tinnies to get in and out while you still have enough water under you.

Out the front of Tinnanbar is another good spot. Does your houseboat have a fish finder on it? I know some in that area only have depth sounders, which don't show the bottom. If you do have a fish finder have a look for the structure in the deeper water over near Fraser. Get some good Blackall there at times (Slate Bream). Simple paternoster rig with fresh yabbies, or pilchards should get you a few hook ups. The Bluff across at Fraser is another place worth dropping a line.

Flathead and whiting can be found all through the Strait along the sand bars, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting a feed.

You will need to check out the new zonings for the Great Sandy Straight. Not sure if any of the places I have mentioned are now out of bounds. There are links to it in the News Section. Hope this helps.
