In short Spiro when i did my restricted coxswains quite a few years ago now it involved the following.

1 years commercial sea time......

Marine radio operators certificate of profiency....Approx 2 days study.....

Health and safety at sea.....36 hours study...

Senior first aid certificate....2 days

Nautical knowlege forgotten how long etc....??

And then you have to front Queensland transport for your exam, for mine it was sitting at a table with 5 blokes firing questions.

I have probably forgotten something though as it has been a while.

Hope that helps.

Darryl.

Coxswains ticket requires -

Senior first aid certificate - 2 days.

Marine radio course - 2 days.

Elements of shipboard safety - 5 days.

Certificate 3 in Transport & Distribution ( Maritime operations ) - 5 weeks.

+ a minimum of 90 days logged sea time on a commercially registered vessel.

Ive nearly finished mine, will they take a green but keen skipper Webby ?

Cheers
James

Not to mention that all 4 of the courses cost just under a $1000. The sea time can cost you as well if you have to volunteer Deckie on a vessel, 3 or 4 months without pay hurts the bank account I imagine.
