There is a new version of Google Earth available, higher resolution and more fetures.

Seems to use more resources on the PC but definitely much more detail in more areas.

If you have the old one it should update itself. Otherwise look on google site itself.

Looks different, but unfortunately for me, still same old crappy blurry 40 year old images over the area I want to look at!

This is from PC World

Google has upgraded one of its flashier products, the Google Earth mapping application, with a revamped user interface and a larger index of images, the Mountain View, California, company said yesterday.

The free, downloadable application taps into a multi-terabyte database of satellite images and, with a video-game-like interface, lets users travel around the world, virtually flying from destination to destination and zooming in and out of cities.

On Monday, Google announced that Google Earth's index of high-resolution satellite and aerial imagery has been quadrupled. Google Maps, the online mapping service, will begin tapping into this expanded index soon. This, in turn, will benefit the Google Local business-listings search service with which Google Maps is tightly integrated.

Meanwhile, the more streamlined user interface includes new tools to create and display content generated by users and external applications. This is a nod to the now popular practice among Internet companies of encouraging users and external developers to extend their services and products with contributions such as plug-ins, applications, tags and reviews.

Additional Improvements

For the first time, Google Earth is now available for the Linux operating system, in addition to Windows and Mac OS. And it now comes in Spanish, Italian, German, and French versions.

Also new in Google Earth is support for the creation of textured building drawings with the Google SketchUp application for creating, viewing and modifying 3D images.

Lastly, Google has updated its Google Maps application programming interface (API) to tie address data into applications that use Google Maps. Meanwhile, Google also unveiled a fee-based license for businesses interested in tapping Google Maps for Web or internal applications.

The Google Earth upgrade, version 4 of the application, is being released in beta, or test, form, at earth.google.com.

It would be handy if they gave a 'last updated' date, so we know how current the image is.
Is there anywhere on the site that tells you how old the image is that you're looking at.

Up here in the Cairns region the "latest images" just updated are more than 12 months old as I built a 12 x 8m Shed on a property south of Cairns and the image which clearly shows the garden doesn't show the 14 month old shed. But it sure beats the blurred image I am used to !

The highest resolution section is a shot of the Google HQ where 1 pixel = 1 inch!!

There are various other resolutions, 1 pixel = 3in, 1 pixel = 6in, 1 pixel = 12in etc.
In Sheffield UK, people are clearly visible walking the streets.

Certainly a lot clearer pictures.
EG. Ayers rock
And in Darwin Harbour it shows an empty barge being pushed by a tug boat.

And at this site ,Chinhae, in South Korea ,it shows them building huge levees in the sea. I wonder if it is land reclamation.

Does he have a slight American accent? It could be the new "Stealth House" I've been hearing about. ::)
