WARNING!!!!!!

Watch your step if you are land based.

I wouldn't want to step on one of these mongrels.

Not exactly my target species.

Ugly Sucker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to own a bait shop in Brizzy and my worm supplier used to dig off Fisho's Island. One day I asked him what do they do if they got stung by one of these suckers and he replied "Well Billy, I'd crack a beer and sit down in the mud and drink it slowly 'cos by the time they got you back in and medical help arrived you'd be rat$hit anyway" the way he said it and the typical QLD deadpan he used was a bit eerie really................Billy

I caught one 6 months ago at Kalinga bank down Jumpinpin, on a black and gold squidgy intended for a flatty. I let him go unharmed, didn't know the uni would be after them as mentioned by Chong.

Are there any other fish universities would be after?? I suppose anything rare.

Caught one on fly in Darwin harbour a couple of years ago. Also in late 80's caught 7 in three casts of cast net in Nudge creek, and up till that day I was always barefooted. ;D
Cheers Ian

i remember many years ago as a kid looking in shock at this massive stonefish that was in a tank at the pinkenba bait shop . apparently it was caught just out from the ramp.

be very careful when wading the flats people , these things could be anywhere :o

A mate of mine had one in a fish tank back when we were young and silly, his old man was making a late night visit to the loo and in the dark didnt the see the Stonefish that had jumped put of the tank!

Thankfully I wasn't present but they reckon you hear the language for miles!!!
We still laugh about it.......... when the old bloke isnt around of course!

Yuk, what a festy looking piece that thing is, did you get your lure back ?

I agree, watch yourself if wading the shallows alright. Speaking of which, you'd be OK if you had waders on that have decent boots wouldn't you ?

interesting article in todays ""sunshine coast daily"" re a fellow who has caught 2 stoney's,,, both were camoflauged as flotsam,, floating on top of the water with other garbage,,,ambushing bait that was using the flotsam as cover,,

qld uni say this is more common than we think as they are very sluggish swimmers an probably use this to ""drift"" from 1 area to another,,

pic provided with the article is hard to decipher which end is which,,,as its covered in algae,,barnacles etc etc,,,,just makes you wonder eh?????????

Okay, here's the juice.

He fought like a football full of sand.

The Gulp was retrieved with pliers.

I only held him under the gills with the gaff to record the precious memories. He was released alive and dangerous.

I reckon he struck on the bottom. However there was a lot of weed sub surface at the time. I got the sh!ts with the weed before long. Promptly changed to a popper & caught dinner.

Dan.
