Jamaryiz it is for me (named after mine and my brothers kids). VHF 73 as well (but often listening in jealousy to 21 and the associated reports). Haven't ever installed the 27 meg but do have one. Not sure what channel I will use at this stage when it is installed. Haven't radioed too many for a chat yet but don't hesitate to give me a call if you hear me out there.

Interesting that all you guys north of the border use 91+, our coast-guard channel is 88, but I usually go duel-band on 91 also.

I use the call Sign 'BLACK JACK' on VHF 73 and 27mhz 91

I have noticed another Black Jack logs in at VMR Raby Bay at times.

Good idea, I'm going to get a little black book together, which ties in with my other topic about the safety of fishing solo. If out there alone and something goes wrong, you might hear another Ausfisher on the radio who might assist if possible - but not to take over the function of coastguard operators in the event of something more serious. Some areas you might assist are - flat battery, out of fuel, out of beer, a deckie is green and wants to head back - all sorts of non serious assistance needed that we might be able to help one another.

Onerabbit - channel 88 is the emergency channel, and radio traffic should be kept to a minimum on this channel. Channel 90 and 91 are the general call up channels, but once I have called anyone, and a conversation is likely, I ask the other party to go to channel 96, which gets out of the main channels coastguard use, which are 90 and 91. If anyone knows different, please correct me, as this is how I have always understood it.

call sign ODYSSEA, VHF 73 or 77.

I know there are one or two charter boats around called Odyssey also, so it can be a bit confusing occasionally.

Well I think this is cool, and Phil, Dave, would you and all the other mods think it is a good idea to add a column to the members page where we can see people's on - water call names? It is to the discretion of your members, who may wish to remain anonymous, but can tick a box on their profile somewhere so that anyone can see it. Certainly I don't have a problem with it, but I have not yet reached celebrity status like some of you, who would prefer to stay anonymous.. ;D Food for thought? Is there provision to do something on Ausfish I have not yet discovered?

Is this a good idea?

I think it is a fantastic idea and once I get a radio I will definately put my call sign in. I think at the moment I will just install a 27meg and it will prob be De-Stresser which I am going to name my boat when we have some extra money to buy the stickers from ausfish.

Hi all

I ordered my stickers today so on the water once I have a radio I will be De-Stresser. I think i will get a 27meg radio to begin with. I will get the radio within a couple of weeks once the tax refund is in the bank. Im looking forward to talking to everyone hered and hopefully meeting up with you.
