Caught today in Brisbane and weighed about 3kg.
It was landed and I'll post a photo of it - until then a bit of fun guessing.

I agree with swano, it has the scale pattern of a silver perch, are the orange looking fins just shadow, if so I would have to say silver perch.

Looks like a Coal Grunter, but Brisbane is much too far South for them.

My guess...it's a Bullrout.

TT 8-)

Ok - here are the facts.
The fish was caught in the lake at the Roma Street Parklands - Brisbane city centre.
I was asked to 'test fish' there - research for a possible future kid's fishing comp.
The silver perch (which this is a picture of) were massive but nowhere near as big or hard fighting as the mullet - they were monstrous.

Bit of fun and keep an eye out for the kids comp which should be announced in the next month or so.

Check out the sign that was placed at either side of the area fished.
That sort of makes me a fishing test pilot...!

Good silver perch other names they have been called are Grunter, Murray perch, black bream (not the salt water variety), silver bream (also not the salt water variety) and bidyan which is a part of the scientific name. I still think these fish will pull a bass backwards (size for size).

I thought the orange fins were a shadow in your photo.

Just as well that sign is up Dave,

You might have to leave it there, but if it ever becomes official you can fish it, I'll do you a deal.. Exclusive rights on central city tackle shop selling telescopic rods for the lunch hour fisho, and you can be the fishing guide! :o
