Ouch!

I think he might need a new wind-indicator for the top of his mast !!!

This has happened to my ex's fathers yacht at Manly Brisbane. It destroyed the wind vein, blew a hole thru the ali mast, put a burnt hole in the deck and caused an electrical fire melting the complete instument cluster on board. The damage, about $10000, lucky the insurance paid out in full. It is a freak incident, but it certainly does happen, I have seen the damage first hand, very powerful stuff. I am also a photographer, and yes indeed that is what we call a HERO shot.

I take it no one was on board, or they might be looking for a new pair of undies as well.. ::)

Glad I am not into sail boats

;D ;D ;D

I have been out in a pretty violent thunderstorm at Jacobs Well in my aluminium boat and hightailed it to home very smartly.

Yet all of the time, I have been assuming that if you were not the highest thing around, you would be OK. eg the lightning would hit a tree a couple of hundred metres away maybe.

This picture show that theory to be a fantasy as this strike occurred in the heart of Sydney with lots of other higher conductors around. :o

Looks like the man upstairs is a Bloody good shot.
So don't take undersized or exceed your bag limit.

The mast might be shot but I recon the batteries would be holding enough charge to run the minn kota across the Tasman ;D
