GC Bulleton had a story about an angler catching bull sharks from his appartment at Varsity Lakes.

Anyone know who this is?

I'd like to have a chat with him - sounds interesting.

Had a mate who caught crabs last year when he stayed at a place during the Indy carnival, maybe they know each other ? :-[ ::)

I just read about the thousands of sharks in gold coast canals,it seem's hard to believe there would be that many dos'nt it,but i was talking to bruce harris's son ,Ian he said at night off the gold coast when he pulls his nets up there is 1 to 2 thousand sharks behind his trawler :o :o wow.

That's why I stay in the boat :o :o :o Ever since watching Jaws I don't tend to do much swimming ;D ;D ;D

1 1/2 mtr bull shark can take a fair chunk out of a person.

Peter :)

Yeah Chris
my mind went to a cliff gaff and a really long rope ...though a 4 ft whaler going past the window took a bit of believing.

I too Chris was thinking about how he was getting them up six floors until I read the whole report!! Nothing like throwing out a bit of bait though to attract a few, I wonder if this bloke is to blame a little bit for bringing the sharks to him and the canal system?

Hi Dirtydanchez,
Will have to find out with deepsea charter as it was my first time caught those.
Cooked and eaten those was delicious as my parents had those cooked in oven & served with cool salads, they love it.
[smiley=angel.gif] For here, I made it as fishcakes with chips so the kids know nothing and ate it all up, said really love it then we told them it was sharks they said WOW it cool. (When they saw those in fridge, they said they refused to eat those but I made an idea of fishcakes 8-) ) [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
Happy life of fishing,

The whole canal system on the gold coast, and elsewhere for that matter are man made ecosystems. They are responsible for increasing populations of bream, jack whiting shark etc. You don't have to chum up in the canals to catch bull sharks, they are there anyway. There are tidal lakes and canals on the coast fed only by a couple of pipes that contain sharks. Smaller sharks swim in on the tide and often can't get out. therefor they are left to grow big and fat until they are caught.

Sorry, that was a long way of saying, I don't believe that this type of fishing attracts sharks from the river or ocean, but that they now naturally occur in these systems.

my kind of fishing - ;D

I know the doggy's are good eatin but I thought there were some concerns eating the flesh of larger sharks because of mercury content ???

lol - dude could be running a fishing charter from his lounge room 8-)

Flick, your spot on, its the manmade system that is responsible. Ive been reading GC Bulletin reports of sharks up around the carrara waterskiing school since 1982. Theyve always been here.

I didnt know about soaking in salt water to remove the ammonia taste....

Freezing the fillets first does the same thing.

Cheers

I have quite the opposite picture guys,

I pictured this fella chumming off his lounge room balcony with a slurry of old pilchards, ox blood, tuna oil and offal.

The refined gentlemen and his partner on the balcony below trying to eat their ourdouvres (don't quote me on the spelling) while sipping cocktails, trying, as one might, to incite a romantic interlude with his partner at sunset...

When suddenly... a stream of evil smelling chum falls from above, some splashing on his white tablecloth, that he put on the outdoor setting to impress his sort, like a squirt of diahorreah coming from a bloke deathly sick with dysentry. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

"What's that love????? Dinner's ready... errrr okay... actually, I'm not that hungry at the moment.... "

regards,

Horny ;) ;) ;) ;)
