genuine hours
Never missed a beat
always flushed after use
serviced annually
stainless steel skeg guard
3 smart gauges
binnacle throttle contol box
cables and wires
oil reservoir
comes with stainless solas prop and ocs cover
I am considering upsizing and wanted to see if there are any genuine buyers
I had no idea of price so contacted the local Mercury dealer
They said it was a tough one as it had relatively low hours and said they sell a pair for a pro each year with 1000 hours on it for $11,000 each and suggested I put $12,000.00 on it and wouldn't be a rip off or under selling.I have not been able to find a comprable one advertised
If any one has seen one advertised elsewhere and I would be interested
Rob

If any one can help me with a comparable sale I would appreciate it.
I don't want to put a stupid price on it but I need all the dollars I can get to help buy a larger motor.
If you have seen one for sale somewhere let me know
Thanks

I am willing to listen to reasonable offers. The suggested price is not set in stone

Any sensible opinions? :-/

Here are two recent sales I know about.

pair 2001 200HP Mariner optimax's ( 542 hrs ) for $15000.

pair 2000 225HP Evinrude FICHTS ( 438 hrs ) for $10000.

The resale on big 2 strokes has dropped unfortunately.

Cheers
James

Thanks big unit
Seems $12K may be ambitious :'(
Ficht motors have had a major reputation dent and a lot of people will not go near them. I have had no exposure to it so I will not bag them. It is merely an observation.
I guess I would invite reasonable offers if any one was thinking of buying an optimax.

I forgot to mention that it is still attached to my boat so a test run as well as mechanical inspection is available to genuine buyers

I can believe that the resale value of big 2 stroke carby and EFI engine's has dropped a lot, but for DI engines to have gone down as well? Optimax's have been around for a long time and when I look at tests on large 2 stroke DI engines vs large 4 stroke engines, the fuel economy figures are very similar between say an Optimax 150 and a Yamaha 150hp EFI. The resale value on this type of motor should be good. Cheers.

Thanks joey
I was hoping that would be the case
I was all fired up after talking to the dealer and thought the motor might generate a bit of interest the way he talked about them. He told me that pros were getting thousands upon thousands of hours out of them
I believe the fuel usage is significantly better than a normal 2 stroke.
I am looking to get a larger motor for my rig but do not want to move until I have sold this one.

You are right about that-fuel usage is significantly better than a non-di 2 stroke either carby or EFI. Eventually someone needing a motor like yours will come along and if it's what they're after then they will snap it up. You should advertise it in the trading post or even on ebay, because if someone wants a specific engine that's where they're likely to look. Cheers.
