Chasing a .22 for busting light game. Action no real concern - bolt, lever or pump. Obviously there's plenty around in the stores, wondering if anyone on here has one they may wish to sell. Spend up to $500. Have relevant licence etc.

Cheers

hey maria.
check outr local shops. savage and marlin both have 22lr, 22mag and 17hmr
rifles on the market for that kinda money. savage is probably more accurate out of the box. think about the 17hmr cartridge. its a 22mag necked down to .17, a they spit 30grain slug up around 2500feet per second. pretty good for a rimfire. quiet too. Im a pro roo shooter and always have it with me, its good out too about 150m.

Maria,
I have a Marlin .22, lever action, heavy barrel, micro grooved bore, scoped with a 2-8x32. Bought it for the exact same purpose you mentioned. Good to very good condition, a few minor surface spots on the barrel or it would be excellent condition. Estimate 300 rounds been through it. Extremely accurate, have used it for bench shooting as well. Cost me just over a grand. Let me know if you are still interested. Looking about the dollars you mentioned.

jay i think you are wrong about the 17hmr they only use a 17grn or 20grn bullet,as i use one all the time on bunnies but you are right about the price $500, glad you did not mention that youwould use it to shoot roos, where are you located,

sorry Caveman. brain explosin. was thinkin 17rem. the hmr is 1 of the most accurate guns out of the box ive seen. bought a ruger with the rotary mag and laminated stock. top little outfit with a lynx 8x56 scope. as you would know. but have too admit that for close and quiet work its great medicine on roo to about 100m. way out of its depth on pig though. i use it when doing the homestead yards or round cattle and horses. cheap to run too. I,m out Goondiwindi way. where abouts do you do your shooting whatdo ya chase..

By the way, if any of you blokes have room for another shooter I'd be keen to hear from you. I'm on the lookout for properties to shoot on but I'm finding they're becoming harder and harder to find these days. Distance/travel not a concern.

Cheers

I know what ya mean. even living out here and knowing the owners it still really hard to get a run. theyve just been burnt to many times. even the properties i do shoot only allow me access and have stopped me taking a helper. Even though that person wouldnt shoot. they just dont want to risk accident or damage to their lively hoods. and you gotta respect that after all it is their place. but will let ya know if i can russell up a shoot.

jayman i am at warwick and mainly shoot rabbits & deer around tenterfield way, i get a few pigs though around my farm, they are having big trouble with wallabies at the moment, they certainly are a great rifle, mine shoots 3/4" @ 100m

gday caveman
have ya got crop in over there or stock. didnt know the pigs got in round warwick, im assuming you shoot them? any size? Is it the wallabies or wallaroos given ya dramas, i know here that the wallaroos are worst than roos cause theyre bigger eat more and are heavier footed on the crop. whens the rut down that way. im guessing mainly red and fallow. how have the heads been the last few seasons. what size cannon you use. jay.

mate the wallabies are the prob we don't get roos or walla roos where my farm is, last winter a mate boxed a few for me the biggest was 73kg dressed, mate not many deer here you have to go stanthorpe way and reds the other side of toowoomba, as for heads i only shoot meat, but would take a head if it was a real gooden, as for the cannos i use any one of my 19, ranging from 17hmr to a 3006

thats apretty handy hog. they can do a fair bit of damage even at half that size. what can ya do about the wallabies? can ya shoot em out? or too thick? yeah heard stanthorpe texas etc had good deer. mainly fallow from what i know.few chital thrown in. im guessing access to huntable land is like getting blood from stone? a mates brother is south of tamworth in the hills round Willow Tree. they have had to resort to shooting fallow under spotlight. the numbers are decimating oats and lucerne crops. he lost 500 acres in two nights. the numbers down there are incredible. bigs heads to. reds as well(up in hills though). he got a 8x8 there last year. after two hour stalk. beams as thick as ya forearm. im heading down before august. im a deer virgin so cant wait to plug one. wont be spotlighting though. not very sporting.(however necessary)

Lookin for a cheap .22 huh? I have one here that's been kept under the bed for a few years. It's got the numbers filed off and the barrel looks a tad short but it's yours if you have some good gloves.
