I am looking for a good 2nd hand boat that is around the 5 to 6 meter mark. It doesn't really matter if it is fibreglass or ally. Doesnt have to have any sounders or GPS saftey equipmet ect. I would prefer to the boat to have come from around the townsville area so I dont have to travell too far for a test drive. I would like to have at least 100 litres of under floor fuel storage. I would like it to be able to get out to the reef and be a stable enough platform. I am looking to spend up to $16500. If you knows of anyone who is selling or you are selling please give me a call 0405 102 387

MUST BE SEAWORTHY

Mate, I would be doing some research first and deciding excactly what boat suits your needs and wants the best. Coz like they say, boats aint boats'. Make a decision on a particular model or even a few models and go from there. I did this recently and now have a Haines Hunter V17L, took some searching and an 1800km round trip to look at it, but you will be a happier boater in the long run if you get the right boat. Jeff Webster has some good magazines out that you should be able to find at the newsagent, 'Second hand boat workshop" is one, but there are others.

Dave.

I have a pretty good idea of what I want, just putting out the feelers to see what is about. I have done a fair bit of research and as I said I have pretty good idea of what i want. I would prefer ally to glass but then again glass gives you better ride.

We will see what turns up.

I was recently in the same boat as you, so to speak. Ended up purchasing a Southwind SF20 from the Sunshine Coast and bringing it back to Townsville. I was lucky though, my old man was coming up for a holiday and offered to bring it up for me. He also took it for a run and gave it the all clear before money changed hands.
I recently had a 6mt plate alloy boat which I got rid of to buy the SF20. Found the plate boat was rather uncomfortable so I decided to sacrifice economy for comfort. Anyway, don't think I could go back to ally now.
I went out last Saturday in average conditions, wouldn't of even considered it with the platey.

I did see a V17 in todays paper aswell, but I personally feel more comfortable in atleast a 6mt boat considering you will be going at almost 50 miles.

If you see something you like in the Noosa area, I am sure I could convince my old man to check it out for ya.

Cheers,

Lee

Thanks for all the help I have decided on a 600le Haines signature. Taking it for a water test on Monday arvo hope all goes well.
