499 Mitchel

On a bit of a nostalgia trip here, I am after a 499 Mitchell threadline (the one with a roller instead of a bail arm) I was looking at a couple of old photos and I used to have two, but they where stolen years ago, and I would like one again for "old times sake" so, if you have one lurking around in your cupboard or know someone who has one that is still in good cond, PM me.

Hey Noel. check out ebay there is a 499 on at the moment already over $200.00. The big mitchells , particualrly the 489/499 are still extremely popular & people are paying big prices for them.

hhhmm will have a look today, the old 499 was a very strong reel, but the drag ,which was a simple as you could get, used to 'chatter" a bit on a hard running fish, I used to modify them and put a bearing on the spool, fixed the problem forever, the bearing used was off a Victa Mower, fitted the spool shaft exactly and only need a bit machined out of the spool, and het presto, one of the best solid reels around (in their day)
