Well I read that stuff down there on A/R reels, and it's a bit like cars, if you haven't driven a Porsche or a Ferrari you don't know what driving is all about. VBg. ;D
What I suggest is that you look at the things realistically, the drag adjust is under your fingers, all the time, and the handles are stopped. Most these days have rim control and the good ones are dual mode, and thats when it becomes like "Wow" ;) You have the very best of both worlds.
I rather like A/R reels, used them for years. DD has the advantage that when you wind line comes in but it also has the disadvantage, these days, with no stretch GsP and stiff graphite rods that when things need to go into reverse thay do it very quickly. :-[Cheers Max ;D

Interesting thought there on the low stretch and the higher modulus graphite rod concept with A/R reels...
With the GsP there very small amount of time between slack line to fully tense tippet popping stuff....
I've never really used a A/R reel so i can't personally comment on them.
But i suppose A/R and DD reels are a bit like ferraris and porsches , with the right driver behind the wheel that make a very good product an awesome machine....
I suppose it all about tool skills, and the ability of the user, be it they use DD or AR.

Then it comes down to different strokes for different folks..

Hi, well Henschel make a you buet dual mode thing, so do Seamaster, but they cost the Ferrari, and I'm not kidding.
Dual mode is great, its DD on retrieve and A/R for everything else. The Feurer I used years ago was A/R but if you selected the A/R off and screwed up the drag it was DD, and I mean DD, real direct drive, no drag, and no way of stopping the spool spinning, and everything else, backwards if things went into reverse.
If you set the drag not so high the spool would go backwards while you held the handle. Rather neat device. Cost US35 buks in 1970. Ah them were the days. Max

I am reminded that we use A/R exclusively for everything else, who would use a DD baitcaster or game reel, so why the fuss about fly reels. The problem is that in other fishing we are more realistic and use adequate tackle. This isn't the thing with flty gear. Mostly it's too light for the job in hard, which is why I use 12 weights. I use 9 foot 1 to 1.5 ounce spin rods and I know that equates to a 12 fly rod. 9's are chicken gear to me, too much point at the fish, keep a low rod angle and hope the reel stays together. This is salt water, totally different from fresh, so the fresh fly thing stays in my cupboard never to see the light of day.
