my fly rod guides are buggered. is there special fly guides to replace them or will any do.

the ones on it at the moment are just a kinked bit of chromed wire. the chrome is chipping away and causing abbrasion.

Mick,
i don't know what brand of rod you have or how old it is.
I use fugi or pacific bay snake guides when building rods, purely because of the problem you have.
Fly guides are a sod to bind and line up anyway.
These guides are not cheap at around $5 each, but with normal care, you should never replace them.
While you are rebinding the rod, replace the stripping guides as well, otherwise you might be going thru all this again.
Also use "A" quality thread.
Good luck
Dudley

thanks dudley

i went to the tackle shop to buy the guides, but ended up with a new rod + reel (what a salesmen), it is a abu garcia 2.7m #8# and abu diplomat. still an elcheapo by fly rod standards but at $205 is the dearest peice of fishing gear i own. it came with floating line and backing, which i replaced with my old cortland 444.

thanks anyway
