Guys I have a 90hp mercury which is frustrating me very much. When I accelerate quickly the motor "whirrs" , "chirps" then comes good and doesn't miss a beat. Would anyone have any suggestions? one frustrated Squire.

2000 model. i bet it ran out of warranty just before the prob started. take a spark plug to a mercury dealer/mechanic and ask if they are the correct ones for that motor. get a set which are one grade hotter and see if that makes a difference.

Merc 60 through 90 had this problem. What will be happening is that the lower crankshaft seal will be spinning in its housing. It is a reasonably common problem, and is a warranty issue. It must be repaired, as eventually, the seal will become badly enough damaged to allow salt water ingress into the engine, around the lower seal
