I have been offered the following
18ft Swiftcraft 3/4 cab exc cond, with a 50hp Johnson o/b, on a good gal tilt trailer for $3000.
Q: is that size motor too small for that boat?????????????????????
or will it JUST manage?

Yeah should be fine for trolling .
Dont know if it will have the power to go much faster but .
18ft would need around the 130hp mark I would be thinking .

Hi skippy
I have a 14ft half cabin and have a 50 hp on the back
I guess it depends on what you intend on using it for.
See if you can take it out for a test run and see what she goes like.

Hi skippy
I would think it was underpowered because if you get in a strong rip or find yourself caught out in something a bit rough it could well become very dangerous, I think a minimun of 90hp, but see if you can find out from manufactures of min requirements
cheers

Hi Skippy
if the swifcraft is off the old mould like the cruise craft reef ranger clinker hull, 150 will be ample if you want to do bar work, ocean work, general cruising with a good fuel return, I am talking a heavy boat here, and if you need to plane in a hurry. but then how heavy is the swiftcraft? what do you want to use it for? as for an 18 footer with a 50 I personally wouldnt be bothered.
cheers.

Thank you all for your ideas, and i reckon you are all right about the 50hp, i looked around and scored a 15ft Steber with cubby cab, 55hp Mariner, Pull up awning, dual 55 tanks, eagle fishfinder, compass, marine radio plus more (inc gal trailer) for $3500.
Thanks again for ALL your (spot on) opinions.

sounds like a good buy, my bro owns a 4.7 stebar cuddy with a 60 big foot on it, damn thing flies and is an excellent ocean boat.
cheers.
