Hey fellas,

Im looking to buy a small boat to fish from and I am have trouble deciding which type to buy. I have heard that Aluminium is stronger and lighter then fibreglass. Is this true? Can a 10ft Aluminium boat take more weight then a fibreglass of the same length?? Which type is more stable to fish from?? Which type would allow you to stand up and fish from?? I am looking to put a small motor on it as well, probably 3-6hp, would this be enough to power a weighted 10ft boat??

Thanks, Ozza

Geez mate, standing up in any type of boat at 10ft is a challenge.

Tinnies usually have built in bouyancy, as opposed to none in a glass boat.

Tinnies are " tougher ". Lighter etc.

Throw in on the roof racks, drag it up the beach, do what ya like, they'll take it.

As for the carrying capacity, glass boats sit a little lower in the water due to their initial weight, whereas the tinnie will float higher. How much weight does one take in a boat ?

3 - 6 hp will get the tinnie moving OK !

I'm pretty sure a 10ft tinnie will do the job. ;)
