Fitting a foil to your motor will get your boat up on a plane quicker and will allow you to plane at lower speeds (if fitted correctly). However, I wouldn't fit one just to stop water from splashing on my motor. I have a foil on my motor but it still gets a shower, mostly caused by the transducer. I'm not worried about it by the same token.

Cheers, Clutter.
