Currently I have a noisy 30 hp tohatsu which has just gone past it's warranty. I'm looking at upgrading and was after some advice.

I like the idea of a 40hp 4-stroke, would be nice to get a few more knots. Not sure about the weight though?

My 4.2 stacer is rated to a 95kg transon weight. My question is how heavy are these 40hp? And what to do you use a guide in realtion to the size of an outboard? Weight or Hp?

Finally has anyone recently bought one, and what sort of price am I looking at?

Thanks in advance

You need to keep in mind the weight AND hp rating of the hull. Honda 40 4 strokes are the go and weight is about 90kg. However the 50hp is the same weight.

the honda 50 is the same weight as the 40. same engine just tuned to get more power. there is not much difference in cost. depends what rating your boat is.

K D The Yamaha 4stroke 30 and 40 are both 90 kilo.
The 40 hp will cost you around $8000.
The 50 hp is a little heavier at 112 kilo.
Cheers Brent.
ps may i say going for the 4 stroke motor is the way to the future...im going to buy one myself soon.

Some more info on the Yammie 40HP 4-strokes.

the Tiller version is 96+ Kgs (from the Yammie Catalog) and the remote steer version is 91Kg (same catalog). This includes an allowance for the lubricants, prop and possible upgrade to a stainless steel prop.

The official wieghts for insurance purposes are those quoted by Yamaha.

Thanks to all who replied, doing some research early and hopefully I will have enough pennies by the time the Brissy boat show comes around.

Thanks again! ;D

Mate it's hard to get a good deal at the boat show (To many punters) , but if you show your face and ask for a good deal, then wait till after the show when you are aware of exactly what you want you can chase the best deal.
Hope this is good advice ,cheers Kev
