Hi all
Just a little guff on the job

floor retied to transom
the motor well removed and refinished with internal gussets

Blaze, was this an I/O originally or did you fit a new transom?

Hi all
the boat had the same outboard mounted on the back and wanted more room for his dive gear. The old evinrude runs like a dream. the guy that owns it works for our local marine dealer. done all the work himself and the pod is a sealed unit with inspection port and drain plugs

Hi Blaze, that is just so spiffy! I want one. Almost got me outside to my project for some more indepth planning. Big ask but is there any chance you could post the dimensions of the pod? and the grade and thickness used? Great job. Nq

Blaze,

Great looking job. It'll be interesting to find out how the modification changes the balance and dynamics of the hull. Hopefully for the better. Looking forward to the test results.

that isnt aluminium is it. #
a very smick looking job. very similar to what i had in mind. I was going to put a 4mm plate on the inside to help disperse the pressure on the bolts when reversing.
where did you get the design or is it a professionaly built.

nice job,
i'd also be interested how the pod/extension goes.
btw, whats with the engine trim/tilt??? rams?
are they add on units, or sandard equipment?

Hi all
Try and answer some questions
The pod is aliminium
The guys are thinking of bringing out a kit (pod fully welded and bolt on side steps)
Fabricated from Marine grade
Main sections are 6mm
Steps and top of pod 3mm checker plate
gussets inside are 75mm x 40mm x3mm channel
The p/t is apperently how the early evirudes were ( I have finnaly fitted a power tilt to mine, modified the bottom anchor point and fit tilt ram next to the assist ram, I will post photos of that if someone wants them,) The pod maybe test this weekend ,weather permitting
cheers

??? dunno, even with gussets (and only 3mm wall at that) 6mm might be a little on the light side. Time will tell I suppose.

Mine, would have went to 10mm, a lot less gussetting and less welding stress.

Also curious the relationship of the cav (ventilation) plate to the bottom of the hull.

Cheers, Kerry.

thought i'd throw my pod up for review,
seeing as people are looking for ideas here.
centre motor support section is 7mm and the
side pods seem to be about 4mm. these form
substantial 'tanks' that i plan on draining the
floor into and using a bilge pump to pump out.
hope that works...

Hi aido
Just out of interest what is the dollar value of that pod. Nice looking lines, is it performance tested yet. The one I posted is still to be tested.

Kerry the cav plate is at this point about 25mm above the bottom of the boat

cheers

hi blaze,
not sure the dollar value, but it sure is a nice piece of work.
very conformal with the hull bottom lines with a slight down
trim by the looks.
previous owner says great handling and tops 45 kts!!!
guess the 600mm extension helps there, changing the length/beam
ratio as it does.
would love to know what handling differences are normally resultant from
pod/hull extension mods.
think the last guy would've had trouble comparing cause the old setup was a
v8 inboard/jet unit, now a 200 2stroke hanging way back there.
one problem that may arise is playing with fish around the back, line around the prop would not be that easy to clear.
i've got into the habit of putting the motor into gear when anchored up, not
surprising tangles are less without the prop 'windmilling' in the current. imho.

Hi all
Report time
Quicker onto the plane and at 1000rpm less
Gained 5mph
Happier backing into a sea
Rear of boat doesnt sink into the water when stopping quickly
The cav plates sit 25mm above the bottom of the boat ( no cavitation on tight turns)
I hav'nt been in the boat, so this is hearsay from the builder/owner, but he said he was extremely pleased with the outcome as he was really only trying to gain more deck room. He thinks fuel economy will be beter (time will tell). He also said if he built more, He would want aboat $1200 for them as a kit. Personally I think that is a bit steep, any ideas on what they sell for over that way.
cheers
