I have what I believe is a Clark Abalone with a home built centre console, good solid boat. It is a 16footer currently mounted with a 70hp evinrude. My problem is it no longer has compliance plates and I would like to know what the maximum HP motor I can use. I want to modify the centre console to provide a bit more protection as it isa fairly wet boat and I am thinking the 70 may start to struggle with a couple of mates on board. ???

Ratsack I own a clark abalone 500 SF which would be the same as yours bought it new in febuary. Anyhow it is rated at 90 hp max. I put a 90 Tohatsu on it but I was down botany ramp today and saw the same looking boat older model though with a 70 hp Tohatsu. I think the 70 hp is more than sufficient for this boat but anyhow if you want more power go for it I did.
Cheers
