i've got a bee in the bonnet with this latest accident at
flatrock. madly searching the www for other accidents has
drawn a blank, zippo, zilch.
unfortunately final reports seem hard to come by and the atsb seems to be doing nothing for small craft
http://www.atsb.gov.au/marine/index.cfm

off the top of my head, i can think of a few, like mr dearlove (sp) who's gas can i found, the guy who hit peel islands south west marker at full bickie, the guy fishing ouside and got plowed under by a freighter, the crabpotter who's big cat ran aground on bribie after travelling on autopilot right across the bay, think he went down with a pot. that's just a few. all with fatals.

i'm interested in what went wrong and what would have prevented the accidents. nice to think we could learn from others mistakes. but accident summaries seem to be nigh on impossible to find, if there ever actually was one made in the first place.

anyone know where such info is kept??

aido,
i recon the water police would have all of that info, but they may not give it to you.
maybe ask them if there are any journal or research articles on the subject or publications relating to marine accidents.
i guess their are many lessons for all of us that come out of these tragedies.
cheers

especially on what not to do, like that.

found a good one myself,
http://www.amsa.gov.au/aussar/epirb.htm
not really what i was looking for, but highly relevent to
the safety theme. looks like most of our epirbs will be
useless after 2009 (5.5 years, doh). making my next one
a 406 mhz model.
cheers.
