G'day everyone,

I need to prepare a Yamaha 80hp outboard for removal interstate by a removal company. I have little experience with outboards and would appreciate any advice as to how I go about this ie. Do I need to drain the oil? Can I lay it down or must it remain upright?

Thanks
Peter

If engine is to be layed on its side.
Make sure all the water is drained from the engine to prevent it running into motor through exhaust port.
Four stroke will have to be drained of oil from the crankcase sump.
Gearbox will not have to be drained unless leaking.
Two stroke oil tank will have to be drained.
Transporter will not take freight if it is leaking anything.
Make sure it is well protected or it will get knocked around.
Be sure to remove spark plugs and crank engine over when it is to be recomissioned before starting.
And refill oil to correct levels.
Cheers Kev. ;D ;D ;D

Check with your nearest Yamaha dealer. If it is a four stroke it can only be layed down on one side and you won't have to drain any oil. If you have the owners manual it will have a section in it about transportation and how to go about it.
