never heard of any worries with the jbs but all those welds in the forefoot would appear to be a potential weak spot, not sayin its a problem but most tin boats i know of crack sooner or later, just seems like a high stress area for all those welds, cheers rob

Being an x boilermaker- all those welds noted, but as you said never herd of any worries. All welds have in forfoot have been back gouged & full peneration welds to meet requirements for "2c survey" (this boat is not built to a "2c survey" but all JBS Marine boats are built to survey standard by certified welders) so i've been advised by JBS.
So if i'am wrong about all the above & i do have cracking, they are local to me & repairs should not be a problem, touch wood.

cheers Ken

Hi Goanna

I picked up my 5.5m centre cab last april from JBS. Mine was one of the last to be built from scratch, I think now they have them pre-cut in kit form. If your interested I might have a few helpful hints and ideas that might help with your boat, during construction and during fit-out, to make it even better.
Wayne built my boat, and nothing was to much trouble.
Good people/family to do business with.

E-mail me at christmasa@bigpond.com.au if you wish, and I can go into things in much more detail.

Regards Andrew

Keep posting us updates as she goes Goanna. Will be good to see the development of the rig right through to completion.

What spec is it ?? (5mm bottom & 4mm sides , Fuel Capacity ?etc)

Cheers

Ken she looks like a beauty.
JBS have an excellent rep for quality tough boats.
Is this the crowd that has Cliff Joshua as their designer ???

Cheers,
Rich.

Goanna,

From experience If your budget can stretch far enough get yourself a good set of trim tabs for her installed before painting. I have a 2 yr old 5.5m centre cab Sportfish and one thing that drives me insane is having her lean over with the wind coming home in typical N/E Afternoon Moreton Bay Chop . Madly saving now for a set of Bennets that I should have put on ages ago.

Cheers
Greg

I have a friend with the 4.5?m JBS, that is one tough and stable boat, actually the toughest most solid boat have ever been on almost like it was milled out of a solid block!, like the pics.nq
