Has anyone seen one of these before and can you get them in Oz?

Doesn't really explain but the instructions appear to indicate the trim pistons aren't fully retracted? and trim pistons that aren't fully retracted when on the road will eventually suffer seal failure etc due to dust/road grime etc.

Shouldn't the support run to the body of the trailer and not back to the boat? Otherwise the stress is still on the transom and all it does is it gives the trim pistons a break. Isn't that kind of defeating the puprose?

No, the last place one wants to support an outboard from is the trailer. Motor fixed to boat, but boat moves on trailer so motor takes the brunt of any movement, no good.
The stress should be on the transom, that's what they are designed to do and the further tilted up the motor is the more stress/leverage there will be. The best solution is down as low as possible/practicable and supported either witin itself or from the boat proper, not the trailer.
Cheers, Kerry.

If you tilt it up, the centre of gravity of the outboard would be more directly above the transom, as opposed to acting like a lever from behind it.
If you strap your boat down tight there would be very little movement on the trailer.
So why do they give you that funny little motor support that goes from the trailer to the outboard when you buy a new boat?
Mine bounced up the Western Freeway somewhere and is gone, so was that a fortunate accident? :P
I'm with you SeaHunt, the motor should be tilted up to it's designed height to lessen the load on the transom.
It's far more balanced there.
Those motor support brackets are a 'solution looking for a problem'. IMHO

Perhaps some should tilt their motor all the way up on those stupid little manufacturer support brackets then jump in a vehicle and follow behind for 20 mile.
Some of the ones I've followed/observed, if it was mine would curl ya toes up. I suppose out of sight, out of mind, should be a law against outboard abuse #:D
Cheers, Kerry.

Horses for courses. Have used motor support brackets that attach to the trailer always - no problems to date. Given, the boat will move on the trailer BUT, it is only a support bracket not a secure without movement bracket. ;)
