I was talking to the Comander of HMAS Canberra a few months back and he swears by Fish-oil. I never thought to ask him if that is what is used on all Navy Vessels as I am sure they have tested pretty much all products of any consequence.
At Vicky Point we use a product called Inox which is very good, but probably a little more expensive.

Lanolin!! Great stuff. Doesn't smell as much as fish oil either.

The cheapest is old sump oil(from the car) and kero mixed. Messy, but it does the job. Lanolin is good and smells lovely. Lasts about the same time as the sump oil. i've been using 'chain lube' (get it at motor bike shops) lately. Costs about the same as lanolin and seems to last a lot longer.
Doesn't help our srtuggling graziers as much as the lanolin though.
try them all out and see which you like best financially and putting on wise.

hte lanion oil i use is Lanotec GP-21 it is the pure lanion oil and nice and think (and smelly) it lasts quite a while and only needs re appliying every 10 mounths or so but because it is the better stuff you also need to break out those better notes to pay for it ;D i forget how much a piad for mine but you get a good 3 times out of a 750ml spray bottle ;D

stay away from washing boat motor and trailer down with detergent. If you do use detergent, make sure you rinse it all off.

I swear by Inox. I asked Bunnings to get it in bulk for me. 50 bucks for 5 litres.

Lanotec HD -21 is the one that dries hard, Basserman.

There was a product around that you may find called Tectyl 501. I think it has been replaced with Tectyl 506. Dries hard. Spray can. has had one application on my trailer nearly 5 yrs ago. only a couple of bolts have rusted since.

But I do use Lanotec now HD-21 dry's and GP-21 is like CRC, RP7 etc.

Kingtin.
I too use inox. You can get it from Super Cheap Auto in a 5 litre bottle for $39.00, with a seperate spray bottle included. Even cheaper when they have 20% off sales on public holidays.

i use lanoguard and inox.
lanoguard the whole trailer withthe boat off it stays abit tacy for a whille but just a hose off is all it needs redo every couple months or so i like it because it doesn't make your trailor dirty looking like tectol, tectol is a by product from fuel refining petrolium wax, good sh&^ but looks dirty. tectol or lanoguard both great for rust prevention.

Luck Phil,
Have you used the HD-21 on the interior of trailer lights?? One of my pet hates is lights not working and been having trouble of late with water ingress.

I spray ordinary Inox up into my submersible lights (over the wires and bulbs) and have not had any trouble. No signs of verdigris or black wires and lights always work....at least they have for past 2 years touch wood that will continue

Forgot to ask, is it a good idea to spray the springs (galvanised) with Lanox or will dust get in between the leaves and cause problems. Thanks.
