i would recomned the hummingbird matrix they have them in all rangers now covering the entry leave to top of the line
but most important in buying a new sounder is to buy the one that give you the most dpi for your money (highest resoultion)

dnej, I've got a Lowrance X57 which is approx $350 and has the best pixel count of any entry level sounder I've seen. Is great in bay waters but would look at a higher level Lowrance if fishing greater depths.
Couldnt find an X57 on their web site, any ideas why

Your $500 - $600 will get you a top notch Lowrance from the USA. The X126DF for example. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Have a look at the Furuno LS-4100.
Top little unit with heaps of grunt. Bracket or Dash mount.
Under $500 if you shop around :o :o

I am thinking of getting either a Matrix 65 or 67, does anyone have these, what are they like?
Does anyone know the difference between these models, seems to be a high price difference.

There is a Legend/Zercom/Teleflex-Morse 2005 for sale on the QFM site which would be the pick of any unit going in your price range. Just bought one of the last 3005s in existence myself. It will be a sad day when these units are no more.
