One month ago I purchased a bluefin bowrider 525 03 model with a 90 yamaha, I'm just wondering the best way to store the motor that will be better for the hydraulic tilt & trim.
either right down (the top being horizontal) or in the travelling position (resting on the tabs)?

Yeah i even leave my manual tilt model down. No angle on it means its putting less pressure on the transom.

I leave mine down as well. Has the extra benefit of finding out if I have a flat battery "before" I leave home as I have to raise it before I leave. Happened once actually so our came the battery from the wife's car. I still got to go fishing and she unfortunately was stuck at home, no shopping, and 2 roudy kids. ;D

Interesting. I have always left mine in travel position with outboard/trailer bracket. To be honest i never thought it made any difference, will have to change my habits.

As for you Cheech ya cheeky bugger, if i took the mrs' car battery and left her stuck at home with the kids i dont think it would be worth my while returning home from fishing.

Cheers,
JD

Ask the same question or seach for answers on this forum. US centric site but some very experienced motor guys monitor questions. http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=30

I alway leave the motor down my Yamaha has 3 shafts .Shallow drive and tilt right up .
Beleave it to be for any corrosion or pitting on the cylinder shaft better inside the ram
than out in the elements . Saves wear on seals to . [smiley=smash.gif]
Like the one about a flat battery early warrning nice one

I leave my merc 115 up on the travel stops as this reduces pressure on the hydraulics which are under pressure when trimming down.As for corrosion on the rams I spray mine with inox after cleaning the motor. This is what it says on the sticker anyway.

What about any other tips for maintenance, spraying the motor with WD or the likes, greasing grease nipples, anything else that should be done regularly.
