Just for a change,, a happy ending to a sounder problem.
Like a lot of people I have continually had problems with my sounder when up on the plane. I tried many places, moved it up and down, even tried the port side. The transom started looking like swiss cheese.
Thought I would give it one last bash. But instead of drilling yet more holes, I had a piece of 30mm aluminium chanel so using existing holes I mounted this to the transom and mounted the transducer to it instead.
First time it was even worse. But then started working in shallow but not deep. Adjusted the angle a bit more, and then all of a sudden I started not only getting a depth reading, but also a contour.
Wow!! is a whole new world being able to motor along and see what you are on top of.
So I suppose the moral to the story is don't give up. My sounder is a fairly cheap version (Hummingbird 100sx), but apparently even they can give proper readouts.
By the way, the location that started to work was about 2/3 of the way from the centre to the side.
