Has anyone out there had any good or bad experience with these engines. I am looking at a '99 200hp unit.

Stay well away from the ficth engines. A mate of mine ran 1 for a while, spent more time having repairs done to it than on the water. Nearly cost him his buisness as a fishing guide. Complete rubbish these engines and it wasn't just one lemon engine either, Johnson replaced the powerhead 4 times under warranty and once with a complete new engine. That engine went sweet for about 50hrs until throwing a leg out of bed. Its well known that this engine was the stumbling block for OMC. Best advise I can give you is to leave the thing where it is or it could cost you more than its worth, not to mention letting you down. With an outboard of that size I'd say you would be heading offshore, safety should be your priority, Don't by an engine that has proved itself as a lemon.
