No probs mate. I use one all the time find it very accurate too. The one I use is the gps 12, the latest one from garmin is the gps 72. this is also a very good unit and very simple to use.

Hi Chris ,
I have a hand held also, I bought it because I can use it in the bush or just travelling around as well as on the water.
It is a Magellan Meridian marine, water proof , floats and has basic mapping with all the Australian fixed navigation marks in there as well as all the major roads.
So if I am driving through Brisbane it shows I am on Coronation drive or whatever.
Only major roads as standard though, if you want to spend a bit more you can get detailed city maps. Cost about $850, but worth it, for me, got a habit of getting lost. # ;D

i find it easier to use a fixed with a decent size screen and decent size buttons, given its usually quiet up and down where i go.

Hi Churbo - yes hand helds are quite good on the water. Not sure if you have one yet opr not, but I have a brand new Garmin 72 bought at last years boat show - never used as I bought another boat since with its own unit fitted. If you're looking at buying one, give me a call 0419781633 or PM me - and make me a sensible offer!!

i got the garmin 72, had the 12 before, the new version has a pretty handy little plotter to show you where youve been.

i have a magellan meridian that does the trick same features as the marine without the nav maps. Also have it hooked up to the sounder (humminbird matrix 25) it acts as the reciver, and i have a larger screen to view.

I have the 12... am upgrading to the GPS 76.
GPS 72 is really great but prefered the extra features of the 76
GPS72 ($299) or GPS76($396)
I have intentions of conecting the GPS to my laptop for turn by turn voice guidance using Travroute Laptop 7... when I can afford this extra toy.. (Software is $649-00).
The GPS will take Bluechart charts downloaded and that can be updated.
If you are interested, here is a link to the Jonny Appleseed website who are experts in the field, and will reply to your e-mails straight away with enquiries... They are very keen to be of help here in Brisvegas anyway...
They must be getting sick of hearing from me by now

OOPs, That should read Bluechart, not Bluenav :-X
Bluechart. This software is $299 and would cover roughly from Rockhampton to
Newcastle. ::)
