Hi Ausfishers
I have owned a 50hp Yamaha 2s (2000) for 2 years. It is an excellent engine and has never failed.
My question is: does anybody know if these engines or similar yamahas run with a hot leg??
Last weekend when returning to ramp i noticed the steam comming from the leg was infact heat steam, not smoky exhaust which i have always assumed it was. The upper part of leg was hot and really couldnt touch it for more than 5 seconds.
I replaced the gearbox oil and impellor about a year ago and going to do it again this weekend. See if it makes a difference.
Also, the paint on the upper part of the leg appears to have salt crystals permanently, but its not. It looks like the excess heat has etched the paint over time. The local boatshop guy says that its a common problem with the paint; i suspect its due to the excess heat?
