I have a 1996 Johno 150 which I believe is the same motor. Goes well and I have not had any problems with it but it is very thirsty.

Hi Smerl,
What make of boat do you have?

PS. I have been told that this model suffers from oil injection pump diaphragm failure causing engine to sieze up.

I know the 115 Oceanpros had a few factory recalls for warranty work. More to do with the exhaust side of things.

It's on Haines 580 SLF. I haven't had any troubles with the oil injection system yet mate (touch wood).

Hi Ebs,

there was an article in Bush nBeach in the motor maintenance section 3 or 4 months back - it was all about the VRO's in Jonos and Evinrudes that stuff up and stop the oil injection. I'm on my 3rd Evinrude/ Jono motor over almost 20 years and havn't had a problem. When Bombardier took over Jono?Evin. in 2000 they washed their hands of any warrqanty claims on pre 2000 models with VRO's. cos there seemed to be a problem.

My outboard mechanic is of the view that it is safer to disconnect them and simply do pre-mix - My current Ocean Pro is a 99 model, it's been fine, and personally I guess I'm prepared to 'take the risk'.

Anyone else's comments approeciated, of course!

As Smithy said mate the only problem with the 115hp apart from being thirsty was the recall on the exhaust.. They used to pulse minute droplets of saltwater back up the exhaust and into the power head.. Check the plugs for salt crystalisation.. Mine had salt crystals on nos 4 plug..All covered with warranty.. That was at 40hrs and i cranked up over 1200hrs before trading up on a Yammy 4Stroke :)

Fin - What sort of $$ did you get for the trade in at 1200 hrs ?

Cheers

Thanks for your replies.

I've also been told that the optical sensor on the flywheel which times the spark can be a common problem??

Hey Smerl,
How many hours do have up on your 150?
Also what's your definition of thirsty??

Mine does 5500 at WOT. Depends on the prop but if it is set up properly it should be around there. I replied to your PM as well.
