Hi all. I'm looking at buying a new polycraft 455 side console and Ive seen a couple of different dealers about packages. And one really stands out of the crowd. One is offering the same boat with a 50 fst murc, with accessories (under floor fuel, nav lights, filters, carpet ect.) for the same price as the others but the others are fitted with suzuki's and no accessories. I don't know anything about four stroke murc's, should I steer clear, or is it just a good deal. ???

cheers

The Mercury 50hp four stroke is the yamy 50hp with merc electrics and fuel injection. A mate of mine in Darwin has one now. Only done 50hrs but happy with it so far.

Have a poly 455 with a 60 4st EFI mariner (merc), very happy so far , met all our expectations. Only used about 50-60hrs so far though. Had mercs on our past 5 boats because they have never given us any trouble.

The Merc 50 and Yammy 50 4 strokes share the same engine block. Completely different everywhere else, which is why the Merc is such a better motor. Luv me Merc 50 EFI.

my 50hp merc 4 stroke has 510hrs on the clock, still starts 1st time every time, (only had one minor problem but that was due to poor maintenance from previous owner). other than that it has run like clockwork since i bought her 2yrs and 350hrs ago :D

I did have a Merc 50 4 stroke (not EFI) on my old boat and found that it would Idle very roughly and cough and splutter while trolling at low speeds. It was regularly maintained and had 100hrs on it. I now have a 115hp EFI 4 stroke on the new boat and it runs like a dream.

That's the difference between carby and EFI. Mine idles as sweet as a nut, all day.

Looks like its a merc for me then. 8) The dealer has one in stock so I'll have "project polywaffle" at the M&G in cardwell. If it happens. ::)
