i see there is 2 types of flare kits, normal inshore flares and also offshore flares, i have 2 questions
1) how far offshore do you have to be before you need the offshore flares instead of the inshore ones
2) if i purchased the offshore flares would they still be acceptiable for use in moreton bay
the reason i ask this as i'm planning on fishing the 36's, 24's and 18's off the gold coast also the reefs in moreton bay and don't want to buy both flare kits unless need be
i have looked on the maritime safety queensland web site and it only mentions flares are needed and not what type were

Hi Cuda,

you would be in "beyond partially smooth and smooth water" out there.

So you would need the two orange smoke, 2 red flare pack - which is what most places sell anyway.

Check this out http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/qt/msq.nsf/index/safety_equipment_rec

and these descriptions for your area
http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/qt/msq.nsf/index/sps_limits

if all else fails, just give the DPI&F a ring on 132523
cheers

;) in shore are the two red and two orange smoke flareswhich would be suitable for MORTON BAY,
If your going outside i sugest you also pick up a parachute flare and as we all know red for night orange for day. ;D
