I'm looking for info on fuel flow meters/guages. I have a 18ft Sharkcat with twin 90hp 2002 Mariners with 100lt in each tank. I have already a furnuno fcv663 and a garmin 128 GPS That came with the boat so I'm not looking at buying the Navman system just yet.

Like buffalo suggested a few topics ago I'm more interested in knowing when to head back for the jetty then fuel ecconomy (although fuel flow would be a good indicator of the condition of the motors). Other than the Navman set are there any other fuel flow meters available and were would I be able to get some good info. Have not done a lot of reserch as of yet.

I'm also looking at up grading my trailer brake system to ensure I meet QLD regulation (at present I'm dead on 2 tonnes). What is the cheapest but most maintance free system available, I'm fairly handy and will be installing the system myself (yes it will be checked by a pro I said I was handy not silly).

If anyone can help me with either of these problems; Thank You
Cheers John

there are some systems for ultralight aircraft motors
around and a vdo system i think uses the normal tank
sender unit, all are more expensive and probably not
as good as navman.
the standard navman f2100 unit is probably the one for you.

i was wanting similar to yourself for my boat. Checked out navman single fuel unit the other day and cost is around the $350 range (from memory). I pretty much discounted because I'm trying to convince myself I need a chartplotter and navman chartplotters offer the fuel flow upgrade for another $150. Combine fuel flow with GPS speed and you have additional options like RANGE available, etc.

Wild cat, I have nothing but praise for my Navman unit. I have done a few runs with topping up the tanks and so far am very happy with the accuracy. I think as far as price you will just have to bite the bullet. I am sure there would be an automotive product you could adapt, I don't think you will find it satisfactory long term. you won't be disappointed with the Navman, it's just the dollars. Good luck with your choice. Are you running a common fuel line? or would you need two unit's?

Thanks Gents with your help I did some reserch and found F3100 Navman is the best deal for me at present, for about $728 ( might still look at the sounder combo for a couple hundred more).

Cheers John

yeah that price was a quote from outback with the extra fuel flow kit($728). The US prices seem to be over $250 (aus) cheaper without postage.
