I finally proved my bungs leak - I filled the boat with water and saw where it dripped onto the driveway.

The fix seems to be to replace with new ones and seal the fitting well.

Is this more common that I thought? What do you think is the cause?

i bought a brand new tinnie and they leaked had to drill the poprivets and reinstall them not a hrad job but while the bungs were out i decided to spray the boat so in all it was a long job just to change the bungs, i used sikaflex and alloy rivets and a year later not a sign of a leak

If your boat is glass it is very very important to make sure you seal around the bung housing properly. If you don't it will allow moisture into the transom which will casue rot.
