g'day all I've just had 2 different salesmen's opinion on these 2 sounders 1 has the furuno the other the navman. of coarse they both speak highley of the one they have.the navman's colour and $70 more but the furuno has more power and seems to have more features inc a dual beam. prob only use it for coastal fishing. Is colour a better asset than cruising mode, extra power etc.thought I'd ask the audience.anyone own one? :-/

I went from the furuno to the Garmin 240 blue because I was too tight to pay the extra for the new LS6000 model furuno. The garmin is a fair unit built in Australia but in comparison the yanks have got something right with the furuno.
Best points
1 Quality and strength of all plugs and connections
2 Large display that can be interfaced with their GPS
3 Simple manual control features, no menu button with 1000 features you have to look through to change the sensitivity
4 Local Workshop maintenance no problem
You will be more than happy with the furuno Sorry my experience with the Navman is too limited to comment.

I have a Furuno 4100 myself and am very happy with it for a mono sounder - colour would be nice but could not afford the extra dollars. No problems showing fish and structure in fishing mode and in crusing mode it sounds no problems at 30knts.

All the commercial guys use furuno - kind of speaks for itself I think.

Cheers, Davo.

Lowrance X125. Same price, and 3x the pixels! And so easy to use. No brainer.

I have a 4100 but got it as is good quality and GPS compatible with my ETREX bought the data cable 6 mths later i find out they will not talk to each other, $180 plus fitting for the right data cable to allow communication between the two....the sounders great pity the sale man didn't tell the whole truth about compatibility 8)

Don't know about Navman sounds, but i do have a Navman Tracker 950 chart plotter (colour) GPS with C maps & VHF 7200, good gear and they hook up together (talk to each other). As for the sounder i have a Hummingbird, Wide Parramount They dont make this model any more, pity good piece of gear.
Cheers Mal. 8)
