Well I have now done 2 props in 12 months, what makes me sooo pi**ed off is it was in the middle of a channel that is know to be good. I think something has been dropped of a boat and left.
So i am on the hunt for a 19p for a 115 merc
Not a happy chappie as this has been the best weather for about a month

did the sounder tell you anything ? or was it a log or a sunken boat ?

Hi Anzac
To be honest I wasnt looking at the sounder, it happened about 100m from the boat ramp while idling in a 4knt zone. To my knowledge of using this area for 20+ years it is scuctere free, was in the middle of main nav channel. As i was retrieving boat and to check damage a 4.5 hc hit the same object. I have raised my concerns with MAST. There seems to be two possibilties
1 A mast contract has accidenly lost a mooring weight of their vessel (most likely)
2 The rumour mill has suggust there is an old railway line vertically submerged in the river (never heard that before)
I have sent MAST an email with gps marks and asked them to look into it.
Prop is being repaired ATM cost of $80
Second hand prop obtained for a favor (only 15, original 19p) cost to me will be about $20 and will only be any good to get me out of trouble.
Looking into a solas 4 blade prop at About $320 delivered
cheers

Blaze,

I made a mess of my cousin's prop on his 60hp Yammy while I was in Macquarie Harbour last year. Bloody tannin stained water - can't see a foot through it and there's bloody rock bars everywhere. It was his fault anyway he was navigating.

Anyway after returning back for a beer in strahan with a few other fellas - inspections of all of their boats revealed props that would scare a grandma.

I took down all of their details - 5 different props all up and when I came home I went and visited SOLAS and got replacements. He did me some awsome deals with reconditioned second hands props and brand spankers taken off new motors after SOLAS had fitted four bladers.

I packaged them up and sent them off. The boys down south were wrapped with the price I could get them. This year I'm thinking of pre-ordering before I go down. ;D

hi blaze,
bad luck about the prop.
have munched my fair share (wonder what those pretty red triangles and nice green squares are for ;D ;D ;D)
i sent mine to the guy's at just props at maroochydoore here on the sunshine coast. they sell solas props. recently sent a few to them for repair, came back as new.
i have got a 13 3/4 x 19. it might be a bit big for what you are chasing, perfect nic, stainless steel. it was a spare off of the old 225 suzi.
the 4 blade are great on the right motor. tried on on the old 225 suzi 2 stroke, took forever to get on the plan and really worked the motor, hae got a 4 blade on the new 225 yammie 4 banger and it is fantastic,
cheers

Dont forget to put the nut back on or you will be chasing another one. ::)
Sure made a mess of it. I only use stainless now, I am not sure how it would have fared though. I havn't hit anything worse than a log so far. 8)

Hi Seahunt
Trouble with stainless is that i reckon I would be rebuilding a gearbox now and not just a prop.
Still trying to decide what prop to fit is the reason nut is not on

Yeah Blaze , I guess if you hit something hard enough , something has got to give. :(
