How to work out outboard year

This works for OMC and seems to work on late model mercs
Dosnt work on mariners

It is called
Word Induction for outboards
1=I
2=N
3=T
4=R
5=O
6=D
7=U
8=C
9=E
0=S
So to work out the year, take the 2nd last and 3rd last letters in the model No

SAMPLE
1345UDR
this would make this outboard a 1976 model
Now check your make of outboard and lets see what it works on
