I have just brought a topender 455 with an E-tec 50, but I can not use the radio (27meg) with the engine running.
Does anyone else have an interferance problem from their E-TEC? ???

I would be checking power connections !

Sure your supposed to have resistors to stop electrical interference check with an auto electrician. My first car was like that. Its pretty quick to fix.

Cheers

A noise filter (easily aquired) maybe needed, but newer motors shouldn't emitt noise, If the motor is under warantee get it checked first for possible problems.
Good luck

The dealer should have checked it before your pride and joy left him. That's what you paid them for.. >:(
Another day without a boat :(

In my research on E-TECS this has been reported as a common fault

Yeh, I do remember reading somewhere about the same problem. Cant remember where but, could have been on another forum from the US. I'll keep searching my bookmarks.

Have never had any trouble with mine or many people that i know who have a E-tec as well.

Sorry but find it hard to beleive that you can blame a particular brand of motor for a bit of noise.

Its not the "particular brand", but maybe its the particular type of electronics these new 2 strokes use for its fuel delivery. Remember that these are very high tech motors with alot of new electronic gizzmos. Not technical minded at all myself, so wouldnt have a clue, but maybe it does interfere with some radio set ups, and see I underline some!

Not trying to give you any grief, but a lot of pratts use the anonymity of the internet to bag the opposition product. They usually chime in with "some research" and then never get seen again.

Google could find anything with various combinations of "etec" or "e-tec" "electronic noise" "interference" ""electronics", etc.

You got some site or something to back up those claims? I'd like to have a look.

The dealer said the larger E tec's are arriving with a new supression system fitted or with the engines for the dealer to fit, that kits will be avialable on the 40,50 & 60's soon, however they say, soon could be 1 week or 6 months. ::) It is apartently more noticable on 27 meg sets than the VHF/UHF's. I will post some thing later when the send a kit. Other than that, I think the engine is great, good L/per Km, pushes my 455 along at 18kts @ 4000rpm and is great trolling at 2 kts at 700rpm, no smoke and real smooth. :D

Maybe the word common fault is to strong a word however I did read on another forum some one complaining about the same problem and a number of other people replied that had experienced the same fault. Can't remember which forum it was. I have no axe to grind on this issue. I would go out tomorrow and buy an E-TEC if I could afford one. However I am not naive enough to think that there is such a thing a perfect outboard motor. Look at the following link

http://www.tx.rodngun.com/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5502

These motors will have teething problems like any other however I think they have worked hard to eliminate that possibility.
