We were having a boat motor discussion today and the topic of E-tec came up.

For the life of me I could not find what the term "E-Tec" actually means or stands for.

I know it is an Evinrude trademark and that the engine has direct fuel injection and the company just loves the motor to death.

I also know that it uses a thing called an EMM (engine management module) but i can't figure out whether E-Tec is just a term relating to the whole engine or some function of the engine. eg variable valve timing.

Anyone got any idea?

Regards
Alex

Has something to do with the engine management as you said. Usually an engine with E-Tec will also have a display like a modern cars; with fuel economy, presets (trailer setting, troll setting), electronic displays of engine temp etc.

Not sure what the E-Tec stands for... As mentioned "Electronic Technology"??
